Yog Sutra 1.33

Yog Sutra 1.33

Yog Sutra 1.33 – “Through cultivation of friendliness, compassion, joy, and indifference to pleasure and pain, virtue and vice respectively, the consciousness becomes favourably disposed, serene and benevolent.” – Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by B K S Iyengar

This Sutra has a lovely sound to it and it has been on a repeat loop in my head. So much so that I went back to my copy of Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and re-read the commentary on it. Reflecting on this sutra, I realized that I have experienced a certain freedom from fear. By no means am I free from all the character flaws and shortcomings but there is a glimpse of the direction I need to follow. I believe asana practice has allowed my body to begin to heal and as a result, my mind is less agitated. This allows me to enter into my everyday relationships, with others and myself, from a place of abundance.

Another gift of learning to chant the sutras is that I am starting to pick up a little Sanskrit as well.
